When describing the 2023 Grand Wagoneer, emphasis must be placed on the word Grand. This uber-luxurious, three-row SUV is a jewel in Jeep's crown, and it lives up to its premium billing with buckets full of comfort.
What's New for 2023?
The major news story for the Wagoneer in 2023 is the new extended-length Grand Wagoneer, the Grand Wagoneer L. This model extends the vehicle's overall length by 30 cm and nearly 18 cm between the wheels.
There is also a new engine for this year. The Hurricane motor is a 3.0L in-line six-cylinder configuration that’s twin-turbocharged.
The new Obsidian trim adds a blacked-out interior and exterior to the line-up.
Pricing and Trims for 2023
Five Grand Wagoneer trims are available for 2023, and three Grand Wagoneer L trims.
The entry-level Grand Wagoneer starts at $107,290*, with the Series II starting at $115,985*, and the Series II Obsidian a little higher at $ 122,985*. The top of the range is represented by the Series III, starting at $127,985*, and the Series III Obsidian at $129,985*.
The entry-level for the L trims is the Grand Wagoneer L, starting at $110,290*. Series II and III are in the L trim, with an MSRP of $118,485* and $132,485*, respectively.
Infotainment and Technology
The amount of technology available for the Grand Wagoneer is astounding. The infotainment is driven by Jeep Uconnect and is displayed on a very easy-to-use 12-inch central colour touchscreen. The driver also enjoys a 12.3-inch full-colour digital cluster.
The vehicles can be specified with a separate touchscreen to manage the climate control for the front seats and entertainment systems on dual 10,1-inch colour screens for the rear seats. That makes seven screens with one more for the digital rear-view camera in the head-up display.
Standard in the Grand Wagoneer is a powerful McIntosh sound system, with the Series II and Series III getting a 1375-watt unit accompanied by 23 speakers.
There’s a full complement of driver assistance technology, including adaptive cruise control, active lane management, which helps prevent collisions by monitoring the surrounding traffic in the driver's blind spot, and advanced brake assist to ensure the driver brakes sufficiently to avoid a forward collision. There’s also a self-parking function alongside night vision with pedestrian and animal detection.
Exterior and Interior Design
The Grand Wagoneer is a massive vehicle with an imposing stance. Inside are three rows of very luxurious seats, and due to the large size of the Grand Wagoneer, even adults will be very comfortable in the third row. The seven-passenger seating arrangement in the Grand Wagoneer is 2-2-3, with an eight-seater 2-3-3 configuration option.
The seats are armchair luxurious with either leather or Palmetto-leather covering.
Unsurprisingly, the Grand Wagoneer can carry an astounding amount of cargo. The cargo area behind the third row of seats will swallow 765 litres, and dropping the third row of seats increases this to 2010 litres. In the L trims, behind the third row will give you 1245 litres of cargo space, which goes up to an astounding 2520 litres, with the third row lying flat.
Performance
The Wagoneer is fitted with a 6.4L V8 engine coupled to an 8-speed automatic transmission, making 471 horsepower and 455 lb-ft torque.
The Series II and Series III are fitted with the Hurricane 3.0L I-6 Hurricane Twin Turbo motor with stop/start technology. This motor makes 420 horsepower and 468 lb-ft of torque.
The Grand Wagoneer L Series II and Series III are fitted with the Hurricane High Output motor that delivers 510 horsepower and 500 lb-ft of torque.
